I'm come back Korea

Today, I finished my final exams and I hand in my final essay to writing class tomorrow morning, I finally finished this semester and the life of America as an exchange student!

In retrospect, I met so many people after I came to UNK and have lots of experiences. One of regret things is i didn't approach to American students. Include this class I took four classes but I cannot make many friends different from my expectation. Last semester, I had to take ELI classes so I cannot meet many American students. At that time, I decided and expected that if I take regular classes I met many native friends, but now my statue is very different. I don't have any brave to approach native students.

I know you guys didn't know that I'm very active and talkative person. I really enjoy talking with my friends even in English and I'm not good English speaker. I really regret that I didn't say hello to anybody in this class. If you guys want please add me on facebook. (My full name is Eunboseul Ahn) :-)

Anyway, I really like to live in America seperate from my family and friends. Through this experience I know the real worthy of my people. I can meet many international friends and many good people. I can experience very different class from Korea and I trip to famous cities all alone. I believe that this experiences can help to make my life as healthy and sweet.

My idol star go to military service

My idol star, Jeawon LEE went to military service yesterday. In Korea, military service is duty for men, so every man, except who has disease, have to go and spend almost two years in there.
As a entertainer, go to military service is quite huge disturb their career because for two years they cannot do anything so public can erase them in their memory. Because of this fact some star try to avoid military service by unfair way or unfair prescription, but if public know about this their lives as celebrity is done.

Now, Jeawon is thirty years old and this is very late age for military service. When he appear the media as a idol star, he was fifteen years old and I'm eight years old. Nowadays, my generation or younger guys go to military service. He is too old compare to the others, so I'm little bit worried about him. He was really popular star in my generation but in military he is just older person in lower level. I heard in army, there is some weird people so they enjoyed annoying lower level soilders. This is my main worry thing.

Anyway, I'm proud of my star who go to army just same as normal people. I hope he stay in good shape and gain weigth, come back to in front of public in very healthy state! Good luck!

Jisung Park, the most popular Korean soccer player

Most Korean people like soccer as same as american football to American. This trend started from 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup. During 2002 World Cup, most of Korean went out to street and cheered our country with ethusiasm!

You can figure out that red things? This is the picture of 2002, in front of Seoul cityhall. Many Soeul citizen include baby, parents, couple, students, and even elders, gather there with wearing RED clothes and cheering our country! (so we called ourselves RED DEVILS) We don't have any feast like this, so it is the first time that I saw every people looked like crazy!! :-)

Jisung PARK is one of the most fabulous player in that year. He assisted many goals and he record very important goal in the Portugal play. He was a sort of HERO to our country! After this, he became the first player who went to primium league, Menchester United. Even he has flat foot, he always show to us very talented and progressed. He always try to show developed his talent! We love this his character!

These days, he was so quiet, so I wonder his news, and today I found his article. He is not changed. Still now, he is very talented player! Frankly speaking, I don't know about soccer and don't have any interests but I like Jisung Park. I really pround of him so if I heard he did good job in his area, I got a energy and brave! I think every Korean people same as me. They got energy from his good news so they had ethusiasm to his record.

have to change eduational environment - video commantary

Today, I was shocked by an article about a happening occurred at a girls’ high school in Kwangju, South Korea. According to the news paper, a teacher punished her students several times by giving them a shame that order took off their uniform skirt in front of their classmates and walked around classroom. The reason why they got this punishment was they got bad score at pop quiz. As a girl, who got this punishment and who watched this punishment both felt shame but they couldn’t raise objection to teacher because they worried about teacher hate them. In our society it can be influence to get in university. However, the teacher insisted that it just one or two times and she let students seat in front of classroom with taking off their skirt but let them cover their the lower part of body with their skirt. Is it can be excuse about her behavior?
Few days ago, I saw an article from the Internet community about writer’s younger sister’s teacher. He is music teacher and he is famous for sexual harassment to young girls. He picked pretty girls among the students and bothering them in sexual way, so every girls hate music class and some girls cry after class. Actually, he was junior high teacher but he kicked out from the school because of this behavior but he move to high school and kept his behavior. He is relative of the chief director of school, so school ignored his behavior.
When I was a high school student, even though my school is Christian mission school, we had weird teachers, also. Some of them didn’t have any passion of teaching even in a class, some of them required money to students’ parents. I really hate that kind of teachers, because I couldn’t respect them. Of course I met so many great teachers in my life, but I think all teachers have to have a point that students can respect, even though the point is just love for students.
Education is really important thing in our children’s life, because education has big influence to development of children’s value. This is the reason why we concentrate on teachers. In education part, the role of teacher takes a huge place. Depending on meet which kind of teacher, children have different values. They learn values, cultures and the way of thinking, from the teachers teaching. However, in Korean society, people think this important ‘teacher’ as a stable and convenient job because except very special case nobody makes them quit the job and this job has long vacation with money. People who choose a teacher as a stable job do not have passion for teaching and lack of love to students, so they make very weird happening like as my examples. If they have real passion for teaching, they could not do unfair behavior or saying, because they don’t want to students get hurt by them.
These days, some students beat teacher or call the police, so people think teachers’ authority went away in this society different from the past, but many student still feel difficult to teacher. They try to respect teachers and follow them. This is the real situation! In this society, students just are victim. Because of the traditional authority concept of teacher, we don’t have any evaluating system even in university. In this situation, it is impossible that students judge the teacher in high school and junior high. I think we need evaluating system as fast as possible and through evaluating system, bring teachers to their senses. We had a plan to bring in teacher evaluating system but this plan is not effective. The fact that people who evaluate teachers are just two, principal and vice-principal, is the clear evidence to prove this system will not working. School is organization as same as other social organization, so they need to showing good to their supervisor. If bring in this evaluating system, they are more concentrate on their supervisor not students, and school control the teacher by their tastes. It is going well you think?
People said students don’t have a good sense of judgment as much as adult but they have ability to judge people over people’s expectation. At least, they know which one is right and who really love them. I think students have to participate in evaluation. They are the witness of teachers’ ordinary behavior and teaching. If they are participated in evaluation, teachers can’t handle student carelessly anymore and reduce hurt by teachers. It can be the best way to change our educational environment. We have to remember and consider which way is the best way for our children at first.

Having Something Over Exciting, The Movie ‘A.I.’ - Column #3.

A.I.(Artificial Intelligence) is one of my favorite movies in my life. No, it is the very movie that I couldn’t forget about it. In my memory, this movie is crying. When I was in junior high, maybe 13years old, I went to the theater with my friends to see A.I. We expected to watch this movie because movie director was Steven Spielberg and my favorite child actor Haley Joel Osment was in that movie! That is the first time to go to movie and but the ticket my own self, so my expectation is really high and after movie end I couldn’t stop crying and my eyes are swollen. The theater is small and old, sound also not good but it was not matter to touch my heart. It might be effect of atmosphere? The image about movie A.I. is dark, cold, sad, but warmhearted. As time goes by, I forgot details about this movie I just can remember that I impressed by this movie and for a while this movie was my best movie.

Now, I’m 22 years old and to 22-year-old big girl this movie is quite wired feeling. A.I. is still dark, cold and sad but it is little bit different from the past. At first, I impressed by computer graphic which is looks pretty well past seven years. However, the main thing which I impressed is camera angle of every scene. I haven’t thought about Steven Spielberg’s abilities but through this movie, I recognize why he can be world famous director. He uses the reflection and refraction very effectively and makes his own world. Without fast beat music like a horror movies he can make cold and creepy atmosphere in the movie.

In addition, I re-found the worthy of actors. I know Haley Joel Osment has real good talent but through this movie he makes me fan of him. He has very warm and tender face but his blue eye and not changed face expression make me sad and sometimes scary. At that time, he was young boy but he looks real ‘David’, a child robot, not ‘real’ thing. I cannot deny everybody who appear in this movie show really good act, but without this little boy they cannot make this level movie.
Frankly speaking, in the past the only thing I thought after movie is just pity for David, but now I felt more pity for the human than for David, a robot. Until now I cannot find the meaning of this movie that director intended to show to audiences but I can have some question to find the meaning. As time goes by, people make more and more develop culture and technology.

However, this high-level culture and technology cannot give love to human beings. People always feel lack of love and lack of emotions, so they try to make the world that can buy the love. I don’t know well but I thought programmed love is not real love because robots are not human. It just followed human’s behavior. This movie just shows to us our society’s sad portrait, following not real thing.

I know this movie is not sold well and not evaluated well, but I think this movie ask us quite serious questions. Someone said this movie is so boring but I think it has worthy to see even once. It has something over an exciting.

Different thinking

On thursday, I learn about harassment and sexual harassment in interpersonal communication class and during the class, we divided five group get different situation senarioes each other. Through group discussion we had to dicide the situation is sexual harassment or not. Frankly speaking I cannot understand my group's discussion because they are so many people talk at once. Anyway after gruop discussion we share our result of discussion and I'm shocked by there thinking.
I grow up in very closed culture, and this is the reason that I have very strict sexual value. (In my society, there is not many marriage students and in the not far past marriaged women cannot entered university.)I think every single situations are sexual harassment but my classmate think very different. I'm live here for eight monthes but I felt we are very different more and more in everything. The environment is very important to make someone's value. I know this fact already, but I haven't felt it is sooooooooooooooo real before I came to America.

Korean Singers who goes to the World!

There are some Korean singers who try hard to be worldwide star. Some people said they are a sort of "hero" because they praise South Korea by their success. Frankly speaking I cannot believe they are famouse or popular because I do not know a person who listen or know them except Asian.

Rain is one of famous entertainers in South Korea. I heard he is famous even in America from Korean media and I believe that news because he chosen by time magazin as worldwide star. However, I didn't see any body know about him in America, but he is really good singer, dancer and actor. :-)

BOA is really famous in Asia. She is Korean but I think she is more popular in Japan. Even she is small and very thin she have energetic voice and dance skill! She start singer when she was 13years old and she always do her best! when she appear to public she always show to public much progress abilities! I'm fond of her!

We called them 'DongBangShinKi' they are really popular boy band in South Korea! Actually they are same generation as me, so I do not have any interests about them (because I feel jealous!). However, when I came to America and meet many Asian friends and almost them kow about 'DBSK'!! I heard they are famous in Asia I didn't believe in the past, but now I cannot deny they are Asia popular star.

One day, I visit TCBY with my conversation parters and when I pay my money, the clark asksed me, "where are you from?" so I answered South Korea and then she said, "Do you know DBSK?" At first, I thought my ears not working well so I ask her again. When she said they are her favorite singer, I'm very shocked!! I haven't imagin that situation !!!

This American girl make me think about Korean stars who go to another country and become famous... I'm not fan of them but they make me feel some proud of them! I think is it incredible thing that American people likes Asian star but it isn't!

where is it going?

when I saw this article I said "They are crazy!" I do not have any plan to get a job related to the press, but as student of Journalism and communication, I really worried about Korean media. Until I got a news that we can use just part of youtube I thought it can be possible to make clear online environment, because some people hurt or died because of rumer on online that spread by personal information covered internet users. However, this is not same to youtube things. It is really serious danger of freedom of speech.
The producer of PD note is just want to show to the public the real situation that our government's behaviors and after the program on air, president appologized to public, also. It means, changing import policy about American beef is mistake of government but now they insist that the program include lie things and it was intended. If producer made lying program, why they couldn't suggest evidences that prove producer's lying, and why they agree with them and appologize to the public? Why they said different things by one mouth?
I'm sure that it is a sort of warning to journalist. Government said through this case, "You have to under control by government, and if not, you are go to jail like this!" They are crazy. I'm worried about our future, seriously.

Do You Like Walking?

The biggest thing that changed after I came to America is walking a lot. I spend over four hours per day on the street but I usually use the transportation, so I don't need to walk so much except I went to shopping :-) . In here, Kearney, I always have to walk a lot to get my class or to buy food and so on. Today, I went to mall to window shopping. I don't have any specific goal of today's shopping but my friends and I get many stuffs and it takes near six hours. I wrote about my diet before, so we decided get our home by walk. To me, it takes almost one hour but today's weather is quite warm and we need to spend our calories so we start walking! Frankly speaking, I don't like walking but with friend? It's quite good! wind is cool air is fresh. (The only thing annoying me is someone's shouting from the car! I cannot understand why they shouting toward walking Asian students.) We are really exusted already but walking one more hour is pretty good exercise to me! :-) My foots are soar but my feeling is really great! Do you like walking at night? :-) I like it! I like walking under lots of building lights but I preper walking under full yellow moon! Did you see today's night sky? The moon is really beautiful! How about enjoy beautiful night walking?

Can You See The Ambition of The President Lee? - Column 2

Silvio Berlusconi is the prime minister of Italy. He was elected as the prime minister third times in 2008. (1994, and from 2001 to 2006 he was prime minister of Italy.) He is the first wealthy person in Italy before and after he was being prime minister. He owns many companies and it include the Italian media companies and after he was being prime minister he tried to control a broadcasting station that run by government. He made his person as a president of a government-run broadcasting station and it cause huge demonstration but finally he control Italy media almost 90% and Italy people said they cannot know the real social situation through the media because Berlusconi control the media. People elected him because he was CEO so they believed that he can help develop their economy but after he became prime minister their economy development rate was not high.

Lee myung-bak is the president of South Korea. He was CEO of Hyundai Construction Company and a mayor of Seoul. He promoted himself only he could develop Korean economy and Korean people believed and certain that insist because he was CEO of big company. However, current Korean economy is terrible. Worth of money is going down and almost company fire many employees and reduce people’s salary. He made or fixed policies for big company and he neglect small company or poor people. Before I came to America, many people go out to the center of Seoul to show their voice that they don’t want to import beef from America but President Lee ignored that voice and put down by violence. It means he want control everything by him and he started to try control media. He changed president of KBS, a government-run broadcasting station, as his person and now he try to change the media law that one company can own newspaper and broadcasting station both. Isn’t he looks as same as Silvio Berlusconi?

Every day I look Korean web site and news, when I found a movie clip which was made by labor union of one broadcasting station, my feeling is so complex. The movie clip said the Korean situation that the party in power try to make the new media law without agreement of the others in many foreign languages. I felt embarrassed and shame, on the other hand, I’m worried about my country. Because of appearance of new media, we need some new rules but their new law just focus on the turning public broadcasting station to private and the allowance of one company can own newspaper and broadcasting station both. Some people said they cannot understand why people against this new law even they do not know this law’s meaning. In case of Korea, one company has newspaper and broadcasting station is can threat freedom of speech.

First of all, change to private broadcasting station is the first step to make control media easier than before. Private company always has to follow a man of power so they try to do their best make the news that fit to power man’s taste. It causes perversion of the truth. The party of power insist that this law have limit to one company can has just 20% of media company but you know that? Over thirty huge companies are whole one family through marriage in South Korea! Korean people have strong thinking that family have to help each other. Of course this is really good proverb to every family but in this case, it cause tragedy! Samsung and Jungang newspaper company owners are family in law so they always look after each other. In 2007, west sea of Korea has huge ship accident, so sea covered oil. Actually this accident is responsible for Samsung but Jungang newspaper never asked their responsible at once! It is really good example that what happen when big company own media company! When big company owns the media thing they can people blind, deaf and mute. In this situation, a power man such as President Lee can control media and people.

Sometimes I’m really afraid that President Lee wants to go back to past that one power man control people and take freedom from people. If big company own much media things, result is so clear! It is going to same to Italy! Television is just fool box that avoid show real thing and avoid to speaking for poor people. It is not journal but advertisement for government or companies. When I heard a new media law, my friend and I said even drama change to commercial like as movie Truman show. Of cause it was just kidding. However, I’m really worried about Korean mass media change to just commercial seriously. If the law is passing the National Assembly, it can be real. Can you see the future of Korean society? Can you see the ambition of president Lee?

The Real Beautiful Thing - Column 1.

I went to trip during spring break with many international students by bus. While we moved to our destination I saw many beautiful things. My home country, Korea is very small country and I’m sure that it is smaller than Nebraska, so I haven’t seen endless horizon. This is my first time that saw wide open field, endless horizon, grazed horse, wild deer and many nature things. The most impressed nature thing is the Milky Way. I born in big city so I haven’t seen much stars in the sky before came to Kearney, but it is the first time saw the Milky Way on my own eyes! It was amazing, so I thought that there is no more beautiful thing in this trip.

Actually this trip is planned by CSF, Christian Student Fellowship, I and many international students have to follow their plan. According to the plan, we had to visit Indian Reservation. Frankly speaking, I didn’t know that Indian Reservation exist in South Dakota, so I didn’t have any information about Indian, I expected that I can see their traditional thing like as picture of books. When we arrived their reservation, of course reservation is just same to outside of there, I was little bit disappointed. We entered school gym and wait for Indian people.

As time goes by, Indian people, from kids to elder, came to gym and we started taking pictures for a while. Indian people’s appearance were very different from my expectation, everybody was really sweet and kind. We were just exciting to meet unfamiliar culture and people. After taking photo, we shared our own cultures each other such as learning how to greet each other, traditional dance, say greeting language and martial arts. (I didn’t know they have their own language!) At last, all people stood circle with hold hands each other and followed Indian traditional dance. It was really interesting time share with them. Nearly three hours spend with them and we had to say good bye.

The day after that day, we had a time that shared our impressing from this trip. One of my Korean friends Hana said that when she got out from gym at the Indian Reservation, her eyes met the girl who named Jasmine so she said good bye to her and then Jasmine approached and hugged her. At that time she thought she is better than her! The main goal of this trip was showing our love but she felt she got a love from Jasmine when she hugged. Compare to this little girl, she is much wealthy and educated but she doesn’t know how to share her love and haven’t thought about that.After her said the atmosphere was hushed, and suddenly a phrase popped up my head that I read from Indian Reservation gym wall. I used to complain about my shoes, until I met a man with no feet. I heard they are really poor and in not good environment but they, at least the people I met, have really generous mind that can love the other people. In this society, people ignore poor people and many people do bad things for their wealth. Some people suicide because of the money, some people kill their family for money. This is our current portrait. People lost their mind because of money. However, through this trip I felt love is alive! Even though they don’t have lots of money they are afford to share their heart! Of course nature thing is really amazing and awesome but real beautiful thing is sharin

Keep Our Voice

In South Korea, there is some conflict in their. Of course conflict is never stop in the society but this is quite huge conflict. Actually I didn't know this problem but one day I found this movie clip on the Internet and I started to find article about it.

I'm very shocked by this fact that they make this movie clip for prevent make the policy which allows big newspaper company can own broadcasting company.

It is crazy! why they make the policy to prohibit the voice of weak people? Is it not enough that their wealth already have?

review about review: the notebook (2006)

I find my review from rottentometoes.com and I think this review which wrote about movie the notebook is quite good review for me. The notebook is appear to audience as novel in 1999 and as movie in 2006. Actually, I saw this movie last semester because my conversation partner said this movie is her favorite movie and she saw it more than ten times! I'm not a person who watch the movie again and again, so I really wonder what kind of movie is it.

When the endng credit appear the monitor, me and my friends face were covered with tear. It makes me really sad but happy. Like to review writer Betty Jo Turker, I'm not that like young actor's acting but I really impressed by old people's acting. Their acting makes me really cry!

In addition, I can understand about her disappointment by this movie. Second version of same story can't overwhelming original story. This movie have the original story and the writer is Nicholas Sparks. I have exactly same experience to her, also. I read Nicholas Sparks' novel Walk to Remember and this book became the only written in English book that during the reading I cried. So, I have really huge expectation about the movie version but after watching movie, I really regreted watching that! I didn't read original the notebook, I don't know how stories change and real character's personality, so I can't figure out which one is better.

However, I think except young people's acting, this movie has good story and good sceans. I like this movie :-)

On a Diet

From this week, me and my roomate started diet because we are getting weight so much! Befor I came to America, everybody said to me take you care because almost of gials who went to America for studying getting weight. I don't know why but I think different meal is the main reason of getting weight. And following their worried I'm getting weight! We have to get back to Korea in May, so we started real hardly diet.

When I arrived UNK, I'm very surprised because everybody didn't care about their appearances (at least in my view). It is impossible in my country!! I don't know how it come about, but everyone really care about their appearence. Especially women, they always wear pretty clothes, make up, and wear high heel. In my case, I live far from my school so it takes two hour to get my class but I have to care about my appearance, so everyday I wake up early, bear the sore from wearing heel. I'm flat foot person, so it is really hard to me.

Good appearance always to be strong advantage in Korean society. We prefer good looking person than not good looking person at every situation. I think it is our traditional thinking way because we have the old phrase "같은 값이면 다홍치마", it means "I'll choose pretty skirt if it is same price". Of course it is very universe thinking I think our society truely truely like this phrase. Discrimination from appearance cause serious problems such as suiside or mental disorders. I know it is really crazy thing but this is the current! I'm very weak willing person. we got the answer. ;-(

If I live in Kearney I don't have to lose my weight so hard, but live in Korea? It's really really really really different situation! I'm worried about my Korea life because I already accustomed to here, Kearney way. May be I'll have to practice to wear high heels because I'm short!

2009 World Baseball Classic

It is too late blog posting, but I'm really impressed by WBC when I found this movie clip from youtube. Frankly speaking, I didn't know that so many people interested in WBC, but one of my classes, one guy who never told me, asked me " you gonna watch the baseball game tonight?" (Actually, I don 't have a TV at home so I couldn't see it.) Anyway I'm very surprised and proud of Korean baseball players. Because of them, world interested in our country! (Sport have strong power! ^.^) Even though, we couldn't be a winner, I'm really proud of their passion and their effort!! (did u see the clashed hat? I'm really impressed and he is cool! :-9)

Truly Hapiness

Durig the spring break, I participated in CSF(Christian Student Followship) trip. this trip is planned for international students in UNK, so many international students who from, South Korea, Japan, China, and Ukraine, went to South dakoda and North Nebraska together.

At second day morning, we went to Indian reservation. According to the plan, we teach our own culture to Indian children but I thought it is really good opportunity for me, also.

When I entered the Indian children's school gym, I could see this phrase.

The HOT zone

I attended conference about 'Hot zone' these two days. Actually this is the first time to listened bout the thinking of war of American lively, so I'd really expected these time. I think it is great time but I felt really sad, because of my English skill. I cannot understand whole discussion, and really hard to follow questions and answers. When I was in Korea, my country, I saw so many documentary programs about world war and I already know about many people blame America for their war. After saw these documentaries, I had some questions. Many American know about these facts? They even know about the world wars? and How they feel about these facts?

'HOT zone' project is a sort of surprise to me, especially, the supporting by Yahoo?! It just surprising, it self!! Even though, they quit the supporting to HOT zone project, it is a significant trial to change to real online journal.

I liked to listen his lecture to journalism students and speech about hot zone, but the most shocked thing is not his lecture and speech. The real shock thing is this! When I visited 'HOT zone' project homepage, I could see my country that named watching place that next conflict! When I was in South Korea, I never have felt that I live in dangerous situation. However, after I came out from my country, I felt the Korean Peninsula looks little bit anxious. BUT, I did not know that WORLD KEEP THEIR EYES ON Korean Peninsula!!

As I told, I never ever thought about conflict with North Korea, because we are sibling and if we were on war, we would collapsed together! War is not good solution to both to solve the division statue. The war just gives benefits to another countries such as China, Japan and America. War is just war, not have anymore meaning. These days, North Korea threat us by their missiles. When I was in South Korea, I though it is just usual thing, they want to get something so they blackmailed to our country and world, but now I get scared. If North Korea were going crazy and they occur the war like in 1950, What can I do? How can I protect myself and my family? Am I have to live in anxious? Can I move to the other country? War is not the others business, maybe it is my business!

Of course, I'm sure that the possibility of war is really low, but I realized that I'm live in dangerous site. I just pray to keep our country from the conflict. This is the only thing I can do.

Editorial #3. The Best Way for Kids

Do you have any idea about the effect of seat belt? No, have you ever think about the effect of seat belt? These days, pup up the arguing about seat belts in school buses in Kearney, Nebraska. Most of states going to put seat belts in school buses and most parents want it also but according to study, seat belts are not help to save kids from serious injuries and they said sometimes seat belts threat kids’ safety. Except this argument, they still have arguments against lap belts and three-point seat belts in buses. Because of these points, Kearney juried out on seat belts in school buses.

The main point of this argument is seat belts is good or bad foe our kids’ safety. According to some articles, the National Transportation Safety Board said adding seat belts to school buses will cause additional head injuries and probably additional deaths in some crashes and they recommended to society instead of putting seat belts on school buses, putting better padding to protect the students. They have supporting evidence which is pretty science based well. They use a computer model used by investigators, and analyzed accidents. The computer model predicted if a kid wearing lap and shoulder belts, the kid would have been twice serious injuries compare to in case of no belts in the bus.

However, the seat belt is really not working, why many people all over the world use the seat belt still now? They said the case of kid is different. Well then, why expert recommend to people, put the car seat on their car for their kids as well? The car seat for kid has the belt for prevent kids, also. It is the clear evidence the seat belt is help to keep one’s life. In case of South Korea, they use a lot of buses for transportation. Of course many people have their own car but Korea is quite small country and fuel for car is really expensive, so many people use transportation in everyday. Narrow road and crowded people who use the road always cause dangerous situations or accidents. Sometimes news report about large clash accidents or turn over, falling accidents of big buses but always said that they can keep their lives by seat belts. Last month, the tour bus turn over on the hill because of broken break, but nobody dead in that bus because every passenger wear seat belts following by bus drivers order. In the Japan, they reported their rate of death by car accident reduced follow eight years. They thought this fact caused by wearing seat belt include back seat of cars.

The problem of school bus is not seat belt but their seats. For reduce kids’ injury on the school buses, people have to check the seats. Kids have very different body from adults, so they have to seat on the special seat that designed for Kids. Not just fix the seat, put seat belts on the seats also. Well designed seats and seat belts for kids can keep our kids in safety from the accidents.

However, just compliment buses are not enough to keep the kid. Everyday almost 400 students use the school buses in Kearney. It is not small number. It’s truly common phrase, kids are our future so we have a duty for keep our kids in safety. Equipments can’t help them completely, so we need personal efforts. In Korea society, the buses are illegal which an instructor does not ride on the bus with kids except bus driver. It is proper rule because one adult cannot control many kids. During the driving, driver cannot consider kids statue, also. It means during driving nobody take care the kids and kids are free to move. Actually in Korea, this rule not kept well so many kids dead by mistake of driver for example, hit by back up bus. To prevent this tragic, change seat, put on seat belt on the seat and at least two adult on the bus with kids. In addition to educate kids about their safety also make the rule. This is the best way to prevent our children from dangerous situations when they are on the bus.

Taking pictures

This semester I take four classes and Photojournalism is the one of them. Actually, this is the last chance that can take Jounalism classes because when I get back to Korea, I've left just one semester before graduate, and I have to take Korean literature classes to get credites for graduation. (I'm senior in South Korea and Korean literature is my second major.) When I resistered the classes Photojournalism is the best expected class! I thought this class might teach me the way to get good shot, the skill of taking pictures or basic information of picture and camera. However, it's really different from my expectation. I love to learn about Indesign program and writing caption, on the other hand, I feel little bit sorry for this. I lose my last chance!

In my country, taking picture is boom! At least, one of eight young guys has DSLR and they bring that to everywhere. They are not expert photographer but they want to have high quality DSLR even though it's really expensive in Korea. Depend on this current, people easy to see high quality pictures in the Internet blog. Thesedays, in Korean society, blogs do the role of mass media and they try to standing against the media control of government. DSLR booming is great role of this current, many people can take the picture of one event and they can take pictures in many different view.

Anyway, I'm not a person who likes follow the trend but sometimes I want to take good pictures by my small automatic camera! And do American people likes taking pictures? :-)

It's so hard!

Today I did my homework in interpersonal communication class. Actually this is the most difficult class in this semester. I can't concentrate on my whole class time so it's to hard to follow the class. Anyway, this homework is the transcription exercise. Listening one conversation and write down their conversation and add transcription symbols. At first, I thought it was not a big deal but I realized that i was wrong, very soon after started transcription. When I watched Korea movie, sometimes I couldn't understand some conversation because of their pronunciation or their too loud or small voice even it was Korean! In addition, these days I tried to watch the animation without subtitle for listening skills but it's quite difficult got every words. This is my currently English condition. How can I get all conversation? I wanna cry ;-( And I have a question, every American can get whole conversation in movies?

In these days smoking ban is became quite hot issue because from June 1st, the law of smoking is going to be more strict to statewide. From the end of last century many states started making a law to control to smoking In America, and now many states separated smoking and nonsmoking area in public places. From June 1st, nobody can smoke in public places include restaurant, club, and pub and effecting of new law provides exemptions for tobacco shops, some hotel rooms and laboratories used for research on smoking. Many smokers and shop owners argued that it was ignored their lives or rights but I think it was very right decision for many people.

When I was arrived to Nebraska, from South Korea, I was really surprised. The first reason is that not many smokers in the UNK campus and Kearney that I expected. I thought many young people all over the world enjoys smoking just like as Korean society, but I was wrong. The second reason is that every restaurants and pubs don’t have bad smell from the smoking. When I was in Korea, I really hate going to pub because smoking smell made me almost crying.

The world is going to make strict rules of smoking after they know smoking is really bad for human and environment. They try to cut down the rate of smoking by strict rules. Following this tendency of the world, South Korea also started making rules of smoking ban in 2003. At first they started separate place to smoking and now they arguing to forbid smoking on the street. It quite big progress from the start but I don’t think it is enough. Government ban smoking in public places but that places include just working place, government building, or school. In restaurant, café, or pub still can smoking in there. They argued they following the separate rule but it just pretend to follow because in everywhere in that place people can smell of smoking. Every nonsmoker wants to escape from the smell and smoke not smoker themselves. Furthermore, some smoker’s perception of smoking ban is very low even though the rules have quite big fines. Some smokers smoking in the building in campus (they might think that smoking near the window is fine without bothering the others but it was not fine) or some smokers smoking in the subway station even it is dangerous behavior! As a nonsmoker, I really hate that situation, but life in Nebraska is like as heaven to me! Because of not enough strict smoking rules, the rate of smoker is not going down in Korea even though cigarette price and death rate by lung cancer that caused by smoking go up regularly.

Can you imagine live in the room which filled with bad smoke? To non-smokers it can be happen in allowed smoking places. The smokers don’t know how painful to stay with them. The under twenty percent of American is smoker. It means most people in American are non-smoker! Why non-smokers are stand the pain of bad air? Why non-smokers are bear to stay in dangerous of lung cancer? I recommend to Nebraska state, please keep your faith. Even smokers and shop owners claimed that they have right also, the state keep the smoking ban. Of course, every human have right to live upon their willing, but nation has duty to protect their people also. Sometime national duty has to come before private rights or happiness. In case of South Korea, the government in dilemma because cigarette sold by national own company so if make rules strict they are hit, but America is different! The state has to remember that the most important thing is people’s health. Making more strict rules about smoking and taking more tax from tobacco, and helping poor and unhealthy people just like Obama doing are the great way to make happier society. Most of all, smokers and shop owners have to realize smoking is crime! When they are smoking, they killing around people also! For their health and for many people’s health they have to quit smoking, for quit smoking we need strict smoking ban!

What about my FUTURE?

Yesterday is my 22nd birthday, so i got many call from my family and my friends and finally, i got a call from my cousin who study in Japan. At first, we talked about our future. Now she is junior and I'm senior so we have to get a job. She said to me she want to get a job in Korea but she give it up because every Korean company require to people have great English skill. She can speak Japanese fluently but most company require English first, and she don't want to study English, so she give up to get a job in Korea. When I heard this news I felt bitter. She has really good sense of design but she can't get a job in her native country because of english! It's really funny! Actually, this is the present tendency of Korean society and the reason why I came to UNK. (Of course that is not the only reason to make me came to America but it is the big reason.) Every company require to people very high score of English such as TOEIC, TOEFL but I don't think it has relation with EVERY work. If I have good sense of work, it is no matter to work even though I'm not good at English, if the work don't need English skill. Actually, the company really not need good English skill people, they think good score is just the way to show one's sincerity. I don't like this current but I have to follow, too sad.

Do you know conversation partner?

Today i met my conversation partner. I always expect the time to meet them because it is the best time to meet some american and talk a lot. Today, we went to TCBY and have a great time to talk about what happened each person last week.

Actually, last semester I participated in this program but I was really dissapointed because my partner was gone without any notice! I have never seen his face because he didn't appeared from the first meeting. I know this conversation is very bothering work but it is very rude attitude to international student.

In American aspect, the partners are not good at English so they can feel very tired. Frankly speaking, in my university has a similar program called "Korean language helper", but I haven't participate in that program because I thought ot is very tired program. However, how about thinking in opposit aspect? To international students it is very worthy time to make a native friend. They always feel hard to make a friend in class! I think it is great opportunity for American student to make international friends! many friends are great fortune to you. How do you know you guyz going to go studying abroad and to be a international student?

I recomment to you participate in many program with international students like as conversation partner! International students are not bite you! :-)

NORFOLK — Two adults living in squalor at a Norfolk residence have been arrested on suspicion of child abuse and neglect and 38 counts of animal cruelty and neglect.Police officers following up on a dog-bite complaint last week noticed a horrendous smell coming from the house and numerous animals living there.Two children, ages 3 and 5, were removed from the home, and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services was notified. A dog had bitten the younger child.

LINCOLN -– Cities and counties won’t be able to opt out of a statewide ban on smoking in public buildings and workplaces.The Health and Human Services Committee voted Wednesday to kill Legislative Bill 611, introduced by State Sen. Russ Karpisek of Wilber.The bill would have allowed local communities to decide whether to adopt less stringent smoking rules.The statewide ban is set to go into effect June 1. OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- A reserve transportation outfit has been called up for duty in support of U.S. forces in Iraq. Officials say the members of the 443rd Transportation Company will be honored at a farewell ceremony in Lincoln on Sunday. About 300 soldiers from 19 states will be headed overseas, with most of them coming from Nebraska.

Nothing is important than one’s life

Last January 20th, six people killed by fire in Yongsan, South Korea. This tragedy happened during the process of put down demonstration by tenants of Yongsan redevelopment area. It’s already passed ten days but nobody apologize or responsibility for this accident. Government already knew Kim Suck-gi Seoul police director allowed to dispatch SWAT to put down tenants but they don’t apologize and censure, but make an excuse of “fine real reason”. They want to make people concentrate on Seoul police director by put off time and want to make him victim. They want to lay the responsibility on him and control this accident as easily as possible.

Many media and politician urged this accident caused by tenant. Because while demonstration they use violence such as throw firebombs. They knew the thinner is very dangerous material but they use it make firebombs for against to government, so they have to take responsibility for this tragedy. Of course, demonstrate by violence is wrong way to express one’s opinion. However, basic cause of this accident is taking strong measure of government. Actually this is conflict occurred between development trader and tenants due to reward. The trader thought it is enough but tenants felt it is unacceptable. In this situation, government had to take the role of mediating a conflict between development trader and tenants, but government just took trader’s side. The government ignored tenants’ the right to live. They gave just 25 hours to tenants for demonstration and then put down them by violence. They didn’t have willing to solve the problem by compromise. Many human rights associations in Korea thought this accident is the case of ignorance weak people’s live right, so they sends complain messages to UN.

We don’t know why the police choose the violence to tenants? And why don’t they try hard to talk each other? Why don’t they apologize to people? The government has to apologize to people. No, at least, they have to apologize to this accident’s victim’s families. First of all, they have to beg pardon about menacing the tenant’s right of life by short tempered new town redevelopment. Governments have to protect the people especially the weak but they ignore them. It is neglect of duty. Second, apologize to use violence to the tenant. Even if tenants have firebombs they are not many and inferior but SWAT use cruelty violence toward them and police didn’t prepare safety equipment. They expected strong resistance so prepared a crane to move container but they didn’t prepared fire truck or mattresses. Third, the police have to explain why they did autopsy dead bodies without family’s permission. Families insist that they already know victim’s I.D. but they did autopsy even they didn’t need. They doubt the police hide something such as sign of hard violence. At last, don’t avoid to taking responsibility for this accident. Six people lose their lives. It is a big deal and we can meet same situations again and again. If we were not deal this accident fairly at this time, we might pay more blood and lives in next situation. National task is important but human’s rights and life is most important thing. We have to remember this, we are human and everything has the right path.

I like drama really much, so my one of my hobbies is watching drama. Thesedays, 'the massy' drama is popular in Korean society. 'The temptation of wife'(picture) is one of 'the messy' drama. People called 'The temtation of wife' representing 'The massy' drama. It is so popular so I wonder how was it. Therefore, I watched the drama.

'The temptation of wife' started husband's womanizing and he tried to kill his wife. this drama contain several stimulative elements. Of course these several stimulative elements makes drama more interesting. However, this drama has too much! This drama telecate at 7:20 pm. It is the time which teens can watch very easily. I'm worried about teens. This drama's prejudice and immoral things are not benefit to teens.

I want to see movie!

Hey! Happiness not comes from score!

Korea is one of countries which is the most having interest in children’s education because they do not have any resource without human resource. In 2008 new president Lee myung-bak brought a new education policy. One of new policy is let every elementary school students, middle school students, and high school students take the state-run exam. New government insists that the purpose of this new policy is building up public education and reduce cost of private education, but this policy was occurred quite huge argument in Korean society because many people, include many expert, do not think this policy is not good for buildup public education and make parents spend more money for private education.

Jangsu Middle School Principal Kim In-bong said “I can’t agree with this new policy because the state-run exam evaluates every student by same exam paper and this evaluation destroys student’s own potential.” Many Korean have very strict bias that only good score at exam can cause happy life. Many parents and teachers ignore children’s talents or interests. They want to their kids study hard only. I think happiness is goal of our life but tendency of force to studying is not right way of bring happiness. Good score not bring happiness to our children. Every child has their own talent. We have to think about that same education is supporting our children’s real happiness? I know importance of education, but we don’t have to evaluate children by only their score.
